Loto, officially known as Loto Clásico, is Chile’s national lottery game and one of the most exciting lotteries in South America. The guess range is small, and three draws a week raise the odds of winning the jackpot. Additionally, besides the main draw, there are also five secondary games that everyone can play for more chances to win cash prizes. A ticket costs 1,000 Chilean pesos.
The Chile Loto Clásico draws appear on TV every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 9 PM.
Jackpot
In the Chile Loto Clásico, there are numbers from 1 to 41 and 1 bonus number. To play, you have to pick six of them (plus the Bonus Ball). You can also rely on randomly selected ones. The prize keeps increasing until eventually, someone wins, meaning that the winner can take home billions of CLPs. Jackpot starts with 100 million Chilean Peso, making this lottery definitely worth trying.
Odds and Prizes
The odds of winning the Loto Clásico are excellent, as there’s a 1 in 4,496,388 chance to hit the jackpot.
There are 8 prize tiers:
- 1 matching 6, winning odds are, as mentioned above, 1 in 4,496,388
- 2 matching 5 plus Bonus Ball, winning odds are 1 in 149,398
- 3 matching 5, winning odds are 1 in 22,041
- 4 matching 4 plus Bonus Ball, winning odds are 1 in 8,816
- 5 matching 4, winning odds are 1 in 534
- 6 matching 3 plus Bonus Ball, winning odds are 1 in 401
- 7 matching 3, winning odds are 1 in 38
- 8 matching 2 plus Bonus Ball, winning odds are 1 in 50
Payout and Taxes
Winners have up to 90 days to claim their prize. All prizes are paid out as a lump sum, meaning it’s a single payment of money instead of a series of payments made over time.
A tax of 17% applies to all Chilean lottery prizes, and that’s also the case with Loto Clásico. The tax is already deducted at source by the lottery operators before prizes are paid out, so the prizes advertised are those received. If you’re playing outside of Chile, you’ll need to check your tax laws in your country of residence for any further local taxation.
Who Can Play?
To participate in Loto Clásico, players need to be at least 18 years old.
Tickets are sold at authorized lottery kiosks across Chile. All players buying a Loto Clásico ticket can also take part in up to five additional games called “Recargado”, “Revancha”, “Desquite”, “Jubilazo”, and “Multiplicar”, however, these have to be played in a specific order. “Recargado” goes before “Revancha”; then “Revancha” gives access to “Desquite”. “Jubilazo” and “Multiplicar” can be played after entering “Desquite”.
Can You Play Online?
It’s possible to participate online via the official Loto Clásico website. Players from abroad are also welcome and they can join via Lottery Agent websites.
