Tinka is one of Peru’s most popular lottery games. The draws are held twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays at 21:30 local time in Lima, with the results broadcasted live on television, radio, and the internet.
The ticket needed to take part in Tinka costs PEN 4.00. In order to play, you have to pick six numbers from 1 to 45. Using the combination entry option, you can choose up to 12 numbers that will increase your chances of winning significantly but at an increased price. Tinka also allows you to play in advance; you can choose numbers for up to 26 draws with one ticket and then just check the results in the following draws.
Tinka has a guaranteed minimum jackpot of PEN 1.5 million that never expires and never rolls over. Given the low cost of purchasing a Tinka lottery ticket and the attractiveness of the game’s odds, La Tinka’s jackpots can be rather substantial.
Here are a few of the highest prizes won so far in the lottery:
- July 29th, 2018: 21,337,876 Sol
- October 9th, 2013: 21 million Sol
- June 12th, 2011: 14 million Sol
- November 22nd, 2018: 12 million Sol
Odds and Prizes
Peru Tinka’s odds are in line with most 6/45 lotteries, which means that odds of winning the main prize are 1 in 8,145,060. This lottery, however, has eight prize categories, and there is an extra bonus ball, which creates additional prizes and lowers the odds of winning, for example, the odds of hitting five numbers and the bonus ball are 1 in 1,357,510, almost six times higher than the odds of hitting the jackpot.
Payout and Taxes
Tinka’s payout options are limited to a single lump-sum cash payment for all reward tiers. All Tinka winnings are subject to the same 10% tax rate that applies to all other lotteries and games of chance in the country.
La Tinka lottery allows for multiple payout methods, the most common of which is by an online transfer to the credit card used to buy the winning ticket.
Who Can Play Tinka?
Tinka lottery tickets can be purchased at approved lottery stores throughout Peru or online at the Tinka lottery website.
To register at the official website of this lottery, you need a Peruvian ID (DNI) card, a Peruvian passport, or an immigration card, which makes Tinka exclusive to Peru citizens and residents. Overseas participants can only participate through Lottery Agent websites.
Players must be 18 years old or older.
Having started on October 16, 1994, Peru Tinka has been around for over 25 years. Over the course of that time, it has made over 125 billionaires (or “Tinkers” as they’re known in the area)—an average of five every year!
The game’s format has stayed unchanged, despite its age. This is beneficial since many other lotteries have altered their mechanics every few years, often steadily toughening their odds of winning.
