If we were to list the most popular lottery games in Poland, Polish Lotto would definitely make it, and be one of the top three positions. Introduced back in the 1960s, it quickly became the public’s favorite and it’s not hard to see why. With odds that are not bad at all and uncapped rollovers, it is definitely a lottery that you should give a chance to.

About Poland Lotto

Poland Lotto was first introduced in 1957. Back in the day, it was known as Toto Lotek. It stayed like that for 18 years – until 1975, when the name was changed to Duzy Lotek. Finally, in October 2009, the name was changed again, to Lotto Polska (Poland Lotto).

In 2012, the organizers of the lottery added Lotto Plus, which is an additional chance to win some money.

How To Play the Poland Lotto

In order to participate in the lottery, you need to pick six numbers from 1 to 49. You can either decide your own, or you can let a machine pick for you by choosing the ‘Quick Pick’ option.

Aside from the regular Lotto, you can also play Lotto Plus, which is an additional chance to become one of the winners. Just keep in mind that you have to first purchase a regular Lotto ticket – you cannot play Plus without it as it’s just an addition.

Right after the main draw ends, the Plus draw is done – you play with the same numbers you did in the main lottery game. Again, the numbers are drawn from the pool from 1 to 49. If you match all of them, you win 1 million zł.

It is worth mentioning that if you decide to take part in both Lotto and Lotto Plus, and your numbers end up being drawn in both of them, you will receive winnings from both lottery games, not just one.

If you decide to buy a ticket at one of the retailers, you can participate in yet another lottery game mode, called Super Szansa. On every ticket, there’s a number from 0000000 to 9999999 – however, only the numbers that you paid for participate in the draw. The draw is held on the same day that the main lottery game you paid for (in this case Lotto). To see if you won, compare the Super Szansa number on your ticket starting from the back with the one that was drawn. Your prize depends on how many numbers were the same.

Finally, you have the option to choose the System entry, which allows you to play with more than 6 numbers. While it is more expensive, you get the chance to play with 7 to 12 numbers, which will be submitted in every possible combination.

If you want to play with the same numbers in the next few draws, you can choose Advance Play for up to 10 consecutive draws. If you decide to participate in the Polish Lotto through the internet, you can sign up for a ticket subscription, which means that the numbers you picked will be automatically taking part in the lottery until you cancel the subscription.

Poland Lotto Drawing Schedule

Poland Lotto draws are held thrice a week – every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, at 8:40 p.m. of the UK time.

Poland Lotto Payouts and Odds of Winning

There are four prize tiers in the Poland Lotto. Although the prize for matching three numbers is fixed, the rest is pari mutuel, which means that it depends on the number of tickets sold, as well as the number of winners. Here is a short overview of the prizes:

  • 6 numbers – jackpot; odds are 1 in 13,983,816
  • 5 numbers – average: 5,300 zł; odds are 1 in 54,201
  • 4 numbers – average: 170 zł; odds are 1 in 1,032
  • 3 numbers – 24 zł; odds are 1 in 57

The overall odds of winning any of the prizes in the lottery are 1 in 54.

Can I Buy the Poland Lotto Ticket Online?

Yes, if you wish to participate in the lottery, but don’t live in Poland, you can buy a ticket for Polish Lotto online. Just remember that the lottery is open to anyone that is over the age of 18. What To Do If I Win the Poland Lotto – How To Claim the Prize?

All the prizes won in Poland Lotto are paid in the form of a cash lump sum. If you end up being the winner, you have 60 days to claim your prize. |If you don’t do it, the prize will be deemed invalidated, and you won’t be able to claim it.

When it comes to taxes, prizes lower than 2280 zł are not taxed. Higher prizes, on the other hand, will be subject to a 10% national tax. Keep in mind that if you are playing from abroad, you might be double taxed, so check the tax law in your country beforehand.
