About Lotto Texas

Lotto Texas was the state’s first in-house drawing game. The first drawing was held on November 14, 1992 – the first jackpot was won shortly after, on November 28 of the same year. Initially, Lotto Texas was an annuity-only game, and the draw was held once a week – on Saturday. However, that didn’t last long, and the lottery quickly changed into what we know it as today.

How To Play Lotto Texas

Lotto Texas is very easy to play. Simply choose six numbers from 1 to 54 on your play slip, or mark the “Quick Play” option and let the machine decide the numbers on your account. If you want to, you can decide to play with the same numbers in more than one draw – you just have to select the ‘Multi-Draw.’ The feature allows you to play the same set up to 10 consecutive draws.

If you want to increase the amount you win (aside from the Lotto Texas jackpot), you can always add the ‘Extra’ feature, which can add up to $10,000 to your winnings.

Interestingly, when playing Lotto Texas, you choose how you want to receive your jackpot win at the beginning – on the play slip. You can choose between receiving your prize in 30 annual installments, or you can choose the cash value option, which is a single payment of the current cash value of the jackpot prize.

Lotto Texas Drawing Schedule

The Lotto Texas draws are held twice a week – on Wednesday and Saturday at 10:12 p.m. CST.

Lotto Texas Payouts and Odds of Winning

Here’s a short overview of the Lotto Texas payouts, as well as the odds of winning each of the prize tiers. Your winnings will differ depending on whether you decided to play the standard game mode or the Extra! game mode.

  • 6 numbers – jackpot; the Extra! feature does not change the prize; odds are 1 in 25,827,165
  • 5 numbers – $2,000; the Extra! feature adds $10,000; odds are 1 in 89,678
  • 4 numbers -$50; the Extra! feature adds $100; odds are 1 in 1,526
  • 3 numbers – $3; the Extra! feature adds $10; odds are 1 in 75
  • 2 numbers – $2; only applicable with the Extra! feature; odds are 1 in 9

The prizes for matching two and three numbers are fixed, while higher ones are pari-mutuel, which means that they depend on ticket sales, as well as how many winners there are in the prize tier.
