What Is Mega Millions?
Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery that you can play in 47 jurisdictions and 45 states, including California, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, and Massachusetts, as well as the District of Columbia and the U. S. Virgin Islands.
How To Play Mega Millions
Mega Millions is a pretty straightforward lottery. You simply pick five numbers from a range of 1 to 70 (the white balls) and one from 1 to 25 (the gold Mega Ball). If you don’t feel like choosing the numbers on your own, you can also select the Quick Pick option and let the terminal pick random numbers for you.
In most states, you might also encounter something called Megaplier, which increases prizes (aside from the jackpot) by 2,3,4, or 5 times. Each play costs an additional $1. The Megaplier ball is drawn before each Mega Millions draw. There are fifteen balls in the Megaplier pool – five marked with 2x, six marked with 3x, three marked with 4x, and one marked with 5x.
You need to match all six numbers (5 from the white balls and 1 of the gold Mega Balls) to win a jackpot. However, that’s not the only prize available – there are nine prize levels (eight without the jackpot). The starting jackpot is based on sales and is announced before each draw.
Some states offer an exciting feature called Just the Jackpot, where players only play for the jackpot. The players pay $3, and in exchange, they receive two plays only for the Jackpot that are not eligible for any other prize. For information about whether your jurisdiction offers this option, you should visit the website of that particular lottery.
Mega Millions Drawing Schedule
Mega Millions has a regular drawing schedule – the lottery drawings are held twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday, 11 p.m. ET.

It depends on your location. Additionally, you can also purchase a Multi Millions subscription in the state of New York.

What To Do if I Win the Mega Millions – How To Claim the Prize?
If you happen to win a prize, you most likely want to claim it! Where you can do it depends on how much you won and where you bought your ticket.
If you bought your ticket traditionally, in a physical location, you can collect a prize lower than $600 at a district office, claim center, or an authorized retailer. Prizes higher than that can be claimed at a district office, claim center, or lottery headquarters. Please keep in mind that the winning tickets can only be claimed in the same state they were purchased in.
If you bought your winning ticket online, you will receive an email notifying you about it, and the prize will be transferred into your player account.
Now, for the jackpot. If you are one of the jackpot winners, you will be encouraged to contact the lottery headquarters in your state. You will also be asked to choose if you want to receive one cash payment or if you prefer an annuity (30 payments in 29 years).
How Many Numbers Do You Need To Win Mega Millions?
