About the New York Lotto

While many people know that the New York Lotto is the largest lottery in North America, not everyone realized that it is also the most profitable one. It has contributed $3.59 billion in Lottery Aid for Education for the financial year 2020/2021 to help fund New York State education. It is divided among school districts in accordance with the standard statutory formula (depending on the district’s income level, size, etc.)

It is a state-operated lottery in New York State and a part of the New York State Gaming Commission. It first began in 1967 after New Yorkers had approved the idea of a government-run lottery in the referendum. From the very first draw, the lottery’s proceeds were meant to support the educational system. With time, it has become an independent unit of the Department of Taxation and Finance.

Due to the agreement reached in 2010, the New York Lotto games now also include Mega Millions and Powerball tickets in the offer.

How To Play the New York Lottery

It goes without saying that in order to enter the New York Lottery, you first need to buy a ticket ($1.00 for two games) at a licensed retailer or a vending machine. Then, you choose six numbers from the 1 to 59 range. To hit the next jackpot, you need to match all six numbers with the New York lottery results.

In addition, you have to fill out one game panel for each game and give the completed payslip to your retailer or insert it to the licensed vending machine that will give you a ticket in exchange.

You can also ask for a Quick Pick in this case, the computer will select six random numbers for you.

There’s also a Bonus Number for you to choose, which determines the second prize winner. Additionally, within 30 days, you can submit your ticket once again to try the numbers again. The cost will match the original.

Last but not last, Multi-Draw is the possibility to play consecutive draws (up to 26).
