How to play Mega Millions online?

The size of each grand prize is announced before the drawing tickets go on sale, so entrants know what they can win.

To play Mega Millions, you must choose five numbers between 1 and 70 and one additional number between 1 and 25, called a “Mega Ball”. The first five numbers do not have to be in any particular order. To win the grand prize, you must choose six winning numbers, and the golden Mega Ball must also be the same. As with the Powerball game of chance, each type of ball has its own color. The five balls numbered 1-70 are white, and the Mega Ball is gold.

A basic Mega Millions ticket costs $2. Most states also offer a “Megaplier” option, which costs $1 for tickets and multiplies any prize you win (other than the jackpot) by a random number between two and five. The value of the Megaplier is randomly drawn at the same time the winning numbers are generated.

You also have the option to choose your lottery numbers manually or use the quick pick option to let the numbers you play Mega Millions be randomly generated.

As of October 28, 2017, a new ticket called “Just the Jackpot” appeared, offering two tickets for just $3. This ticket is only good for winning top prizes, not the lower level prizes.

Mega Millions winning numbers are drawn from two reels, one containing 70 balls and one containing 25 balls. The first five numbers are drawn from the first reel and the Mega Ball is drawn from the second reel. A seventh number is then drawn, which determines the level of the Megaplier, which can range from 2 to 5 times the value of the prize.

If your five numbers match the five drawn from the first pot in any order, and their Mega Ball matches the number drawn from the second pot, you win the grand jackpot. It is also possible to win a secondary prize for matching fewer balls, as described below.

When Mega Millions started in August 1996, it was known as “The Great Game of Chance.” Only 6 US states participated in its early days, but more joined as the popularity of this game grew. Now, 47 US jurisdictions (states and territories) are participating, with only five states abstaining. Since then, two Powerball grand prizes have broken that record, with a prize of $1,586.4K million dollars awarded on January 13, 2016, and a $758.7 million jackpot prize drawn on August 23, 2017.
