Every lottery is, by definition, a gamble. There are many people who love the thrill, but there are also those who prefer to gather as much information as possible before they decide to spend their money solely on luck. We do recommend researching various lotteries, only if to avoid disqualifying mistakes or to find out which one can be more beneficial to you, your community, or a case you care about in the long term.
The excellent example of why it is worth thinking about the bigger picture is the Health Lottery. When you enter and take your chance at winning big money, you actually help raise funds for some of the most important public good causes in the country.
So, without further ado, if you are looking for a lottery to play, this article will help you decide whether it should be the Health Lottery.
What Is the Health Lottery?
The very first draw of the UK Health Lottery took place in October 2011. Since then, it has been operating through twelve local society lotteries in Great Britain, each representing a different region of the UK.
The draws are run five times a week – on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays – and each week. Beneficiaries of the funds change weekly, but it always is a community interest company from one region. Every time, ⅕ from the ticket sale is given exclusively to health-related issues.
Each ticket costs £1, and it can be bought either online or from one of over 30,000 authorized retailers all over the UK.
Contrary to quite common beliefs, the Health Lottery is an independent game, and it doesn’t belong to the National Lottery. Society lotteries, which control it, are all licensed by the Gambling Commission, an executive public body of the Government of the United Kingdom.
How to Play the Health Lottery?
As you already know, draws take place five times each week, from Tuesday to Saturday – each day is another chance to win. The Health Lottery is pretty straightforward; all you need to do is pick five numbers from 1 to 50. If you struggle with making such a random decision, you can use any random number generator or ask for a special Quick Pick ticket. Remember to purchase your entries before all sales close (at 19.45 on the day of the draw).
You can play multiple lottery draws, but only if you do it in advance. So if you enter today’s draw, you may also choose to do it with the next scheduled one. You’re allowed to play in advance up to eight weeks.
Then, you only have to check the Health Lottery results.
The Bonus Ball
The Bonus Ball is the additional number that can improve your chances of winning if you happen to match fewer than all five Health Lottery numbers. It’s drawn from the same pool, so there’s no risk that it will be the same as either of the five.
What’s best, it doesn’t influence the jackpot – you still need to match only five. The Bonus Ball may help be, but it can’t stand in your way to winning.
Playcards
To play even easier and quicker, you can buy the Health Lottery Playcards at your chosen authorized Health Lottery retailer. A blue Playcard allows you to pick your own numbers and store up to ten different lines; then, you exchange it for a ticket. A red Playcard was introduced for those who don’t want to choose their numbers for some reason; this one is exchanged for a Quick Pick ticket with random lines. But this is not all. If you decide to enter the game with your blue card online, you will automatically join the reward scheme that comes with a whole set of exclusive offers, such as promotions, or £1 for every £10 spent. What is best is that you can change your blue card numbers whenever you want.
Special £100,000 Draws
At the beginning of 2020, the Health Lottery introduced special draws taking place on Wednesdays and Saturdays, after the first ones. They replaced the previous special offer – the Health Lottery Mega Raffle.
Now, whenever you buy a ticket on either of these weekdays, you also enter a second draw with the winning prize of £100,000; you don’t need to do anything else, and you enter the second game with the same numbers you have submitted for the first one. However, you need to match all five numbers to get this prize, and if no one wins, the money is gone; there’s no rollover jackpot.
Six Ways of Winning the Health Lottery and the Health Lottery Prizes
Depending on the number of your matches and whether you hit the Bonus Ball, you can hit the prize of the Health Lottery in as many as six different ways. Of course, the prize won’t always be the same.
To hit the jackpot (minimum of £25,000), you need to match all five numbers. For matching four, you get £250, but if you also hit the Bonus Ball, you win £10,000. In the case when you matched three numbers, you get £10 and with the Bonus Ball – £50. Two matches and the Bonus Ball equals £5, while for only two numbers or one number + the Bonus Ball, you get a free ticket.
How Do You Claim Your Health Lottery Prize?
To claim your prize, consult this page, as it will depend on how much you have won and how you entered the game in the first place. For example, smaller prizes can be transferred directly to your player’s account and withdrawn into your bank account. However, it is not as straightforward in the case of bigger winnings.
